Smithville is an unincorporated community and census-designated place located within Galloway Township, in Atlantic County, New Jersey, United States. Smithville is located 15 miles north of and inland from Atlantic City. As of the 2010 Census it had a population of 7,242. Although Smithville has been around since the American Revolutionary War, most of the community remained very rural until the 1960s when the Smithville Towne Center, a tourist attraction containing over 80 shops, opened.

Big Graveling Creek

Big Graveling Creek is a 2.9-mile-long tributary of the Mullica River in southern New Jersey in the United States. It is a narrow, meandering tidal channel (gut) through the salt marshes of the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, connecting the Mullica and Mott Creek.

Battle of Chestnut Neck

The Battle of Chestnut Neck was fought on October 6, 1778 in southern New Jersey during the American Revolutionary War, at Chestnut Neck, a settlement on the Little Egg Harbor River (now known as the Mullica River) near the present-day town of Port Republic, New Jersey, which was used as a base by privateers. The British retrieved some supplies and destroyed others, as well as destroying some residences and other buildings.
