Linden, New Jersey

Linden is a city in southeastern Union County, New Jersey, United States. It is part of the New York Metropolitan Area, being about 13 miles southwest of Manhattan, and bordering Staten Island, a borough of New York City. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city's population was 40,499, reflecting an increase of 1,105 (+2.8%) from the 39,394 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 2,693 (+7.3%) from the 36,701 counted in the 1990 Census.

Linden Assembly

Linden Assembly was a General Motors automobile factory in Linden, New Jersey. The 2,600,000-square-foot factory opened in 1937 to build Buick, Pontiac, Cadillac, and Oldsmobile vehicles. During World War II, the plant was also used to produce fighter planes for the United States military, primarily the FM Wildcat, an improved version of the F4F Wildcat. Beginning in September 1991 the facility was closed and retooled for truck and sport utility vehicle assembly.

Prall's Island

Prall's Island is an uninhabited island in the Arthur Kill between Staten Island, New York, and Linden, New Jersey, in the United States. It is one of the minor islands that are part of the borough of Staten Island in New York City. The island has an area of 88 acres (0.36 km²). The island is named for descendants of early Staten Island settler Arendt Jansen Prall Van Naarden (c1647-1725), [in Dutch, Praal]; probably his grandson Abraham Prall (1706–1775) a local farmer.

Rahway River

The Rahway River is a tributary of the Arthur Kill in Essex, Middlesex and Union Counties, New Jersey in the United States. Part of the extended area of New York Harbor, draining part of the suburban and urbanized area of New Jersey west of New York City, the river is approximately 24 mi (48 km) long. The upper reaches are lined with several urban parks while the mouth serves as an industrial access channel. The river is the source of drinking water for the City of Rahway.
