Mohawk is a village in Herkimer County, New York, United States. The population was 2,731 at the 2010 census. The village was named after the adjacent river. The Village of Mohawk is at the north border of the Town of German Flatts and adjacent to the Erie Canal. Mohawk is southeast of Utica. The sports teams of the Mohawk school district call themselves the "Mohicans". The Mohawk Nation occupied the Mohawk Valley.

WVHC was established in 1986 under the name of WHCR and aired in conjunction with the College's television station HCTV which was "Group W" Cable Now, Time Warner cable Public-access television cable TV channel. Attack on German Flatts (1757)
On November 12, 1757 during the French and Indian War, a company of French and Indian warriors staged an attack on German Flatts, on the north side of the Mohawk River in the British Province of New York. The settlement of Palatine German refugees and their families was destroyed, and many of the women and children were taken prisoner. (Since 1788 the village has been called Herkimer, New York and not German Flatts.)
