Surry Community College

Surry Community College is located in Dobson, North Carolina in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and services Surry and Yadkin Counties. It is one of North Carolina's 58 community colleges. Founded in 1964, the college is a two-year, comprehensive college with an open-door admissions policy. Surry Community College offers thirty-six areas of study, many of which have options for an associate degree, diploma or certificate, as well as online degrees.

Dobson Township, Surry County, North Carolina

Dobson Township is one of fifteen townships in Surry County, North Carolina. The township had a population of 8,088 according to the 2000 census. Geographically, Dobson Township occupies 69.1 square miles in central Surry County. The only incorporated municipality within Dobson Township is the Town of Dobson, the county seat of Surry County. Additionally, there are several smaller, unincorporated communities located here, including, New Hope, Salem Fork and Union Cross.

New Hope, North Carolina

New Hope is an unincorporated community in the Dobson Township of central Surry County, North Carolina. The community is on the outskirts of the town of Dobson along the Fisher River. Prominent landmarks include New Hope Baptist Church (founded 1878) and the Fisher River county park. The community of New Hope also has a mirror community just out side of Whiteville,NC as well on US HWY 701 aka (James B. White Hwy. South). This is home of the Tri-County sweet potato plant.
