2011 Red River flood

The 2011 Red River flood took place along the Red River of the North in Manitoba in Canada and North Dakota and Minnesota in the United States beginning in April 2011. The flood was, in part, due to high moisture levels in the soil from the previous year which meant that further accumulation would threaten the flood prone region. Flood predictors were worried of a dual crest of both the Assiniboine River and the Red striking Winnipeg at the same time.

Joliette, North Dakota

Joliette is an unincorporated community located along Interstate 29 in Joliette Township in Pembina County in the U.S. State of North Dakota. It was established in 1879 as a rural post office. It was settled by French Canadians and named for Joliette, Quebec, the hometown of the town's first settler. Even though it is unincorporated, the post office is still operating and shares the ZIP code of 58271 with the city of Pembina.

Tongue River (North Dakota)

The Tongue River is a 90.4-mile-long tributary of the Pembina River in northeastern North Dakota in the United States. It drains an area of the prairie country near the Canadian border in the extreme northeast corner of the state in the watershed of the Red River. It rises in eastern Cavalier County and flows in a direct course east-northeast into Pembina County, passing the towns of Cavalier, Neche and Bathgate.

Pembina River (Manitoba – North Dakota)

The Pembina River is a tributary of the Red River of the North, approximately 319 miles long, in southern Manitoba in Canada and northeastern North Dakota in the United States. It drains an area (about 8500 square kilometers) of the prairie country along the U.S. -Canada border, threading the Manitoba-North Dakota border eastward to the Red River. Via the Red River, Lake Winnipeg and the Nelson River, it is part of the watershed of Hudson Bay.

Pembina, North Dakota

Pembina Listen/ˈpɛmbɨnə/ is a city in Pembina County, North Dakota in the United States. The population was 592 at the 2010 census. Pembina is located two miles south of the Canada-United States border. Interstate 29 passes on the west side of Pembina, leading north to the Canadian border at Emerson, Manitoba and south to the cities of Grand Forks and Fargo.
