Gallipolis Island

Gallipolis Island is an island on the Ohio River along the coast of Gallipolis, Ohio in Mason County, West Virginia, United States. While within the boundaries of West Virginia, Gallipolis Island belonged to the city of Gallipolis, Ohio until the city sold the island in 2004 to the United States Department of Fish and Wildlife Service for its inclusion into the Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge.

Gallipolis, Ohio

Gallipolis is a chartered village in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Gallia County. The municipality is located in Southeast Ohio on the Ohio River. The population was 3,641 at the 2010 census. When the population dropped below 5,000, Gallipolis became a village, but continues to operate under its existing city charter.

Silver Memorial Bridge

The Silver Memorial Bridge is a cantilever bridge which spans the Ohio River between Gallipolis, Ohio and Henderson, West Virginia. The bridge was completed in 1969, shortly after the Silver Bridge disaster, although it is located about 1 mile (1.6 km) downstream (south) of the original. The design of the bridge is much more proven than the ill fated eyebar chain suspension bridge, which collapsed in 1967.
