Sallisaw, Oklahoma

Sallisaw is a city in Sequoyah County, Oklahoma, United States. It is part of the Fort Smith, Arkansas-Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 8,880 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Sequoyah County. It has three highways running through it: U.S. 59, or Kerr Boulevard, U.S. 64, or Cherokee Avenue,which is the city's main street, and I-40. East Cherokee Avenue is a business loop, with Sallisaw's only mall, the Eastgate Shopping Center, originally a Wal-Mart store.

Sequoyah County, Oklahoma

Sequoyah County is a county located in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. It is part of the Fort Smith, Arkansas-Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 42,391 at the 2010 census, an increase of 8.8 percent from 38,972 at the 2000 census. The county seat is Sallisaw. Sequoyah County was created in 1907 when Oklahoma became a state. It was named after Sequoyah, who created the Cherokee syllabary.

McKey, Oklahoma

McKey is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sequoyah County, Oklahoma, United States. It is part of the Fort Smith, Arkansas-Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 135 at the 2000 census. McKey was established on the Old Osage and Arkansas Valley Railroad near MacKey's Salt Works. The post office existed from March 13, 1891, until July 14, 1928.

Sallisaw Creek

Sallisaw Creek is a 46.7-mile-long tributary of the Arkansas River in far eastern Oklahoma. Its source is between Taylor and Doublehead mountains just south of Stilwell in Adair County. It flows in a southwestern direction through southern Adair County and central Sequoyah County before it empties into Robert S. Kerr Lake on the Arkansas River. The creek has four large tributaries.
