Lake of the Woods (Oregon)

Lake of the Woods is a natural lake near the crest of the Cascade Range in southern Oregon, United States. The lake covers 1,146 acres . The lake was named by Oliver C. Applegate in 1870. Today, the lake is part of the Fremont-Winema National Forests. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife manages the lake’s fishery. The small unincorporated community of Lake of the Woods, Oregon is located on the east shore of the lake.

Lake of the Woods Ranger Station

The Lake of the Woods Ranger Station is a United States Forest Service compound consisting of eight buildings overlooking Lake of the Woods in the Fremont-Winema National Forests of southern Oregon. All of the ranger station structures were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps between 1937 and 1939. Today, the compound serves as a Forest Service work center, and the old ranger station office is a visitor center. The ranger station is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Cascade Canal

The Cascade Canal is a canal located in Klamath and Jackson counties, in the U.S. State of Oregon. It delivers water from Fourmile Lake in the Klamath River watershed over the Cascade Divide to Fish Lake in the Rogue River watershed. It diverts approximately 5,462 acre feet annually into Fish Lake. About 33 percent of the water diverted from Fourmile Lake is lost or spilled on the way to Fish Lake.

Brown Mountain (Klamath County, Oregon)

Brown Mountain is a small cinder cone on top of a shield volcano located in Cascade Volcanic Arc in Klamath and Jackson counties, Oregon. Most of the mountain, including its peak, is in western Klamath County, but its western flanks trail off into eastern Jackson County. It is 7,311 feet above sea level, but is overshadowed by nearby 9,495-foot Mount McLoughlin.

Fourmile Lake

Fourmile Lake (or Four Mile Lake) is a reservoir located 5,748 feet above sea level in Klamath County, Oregon, United States. It is 45 miles northeast of Medford. The lake was created when the 25-foot tall Fourmile Lake Dam was constructed, impounding Fourmile Creek, in the Klamath River watershed. It is located just to the east of Mount McLoughlin, which stands 9,495 feet above sea level. The lake is bordered by Sky Lakes Wilderness, and is in the Winema National Forest.
