Macleay, Oregon

Macleay is an unincorporated community in Marion County, Oregon, United States, about nine miles east of downtown Salem in the Waldo Hills near the Little Pudding River. This locale was originally named "Stipp" for local settler John L. Stipp, whose land claim was just west of present-day Macleay. Stipp donated the land for what is now known as the Stipp Memorial Cemetery. Stipp post office was established in 1880, and the name changed to "Macleay" in 1882.

Waldo Hills

The Waldo Hills are a range of hills in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, United States. Encompassing an area of around 50 square miles, the hills are located east of Salem. The hills are named after pioneer Daniel Waldo.

Shaw, Oregon

Shaw is an unincorporated community in Marion County, Oregon, United States, on Oregon Route 214. Shaw was a station in the Waldo Hills between Macleay and Aumsville on the Oregonian Railway. In 1881 the station was named "Waldo Hills" but the name was changed to "Shaw" in 1891 to match the post office. Shaw post office was established in 1887 and named for Angus Shaw, the first postmaster. Shaw was from Ontario, Canada and settled in the area 1876. The post office closed in 1937.

Oregon State Correctional Institution (OSCI) is a 33-acre medium security prison located in Salem, Oregon, United States and is operated by the Oregon Department of Corrections. Established by an act of the Oregon State Legislature in 1955, the prison opened in 1959 and has a capacity of 880 male inmates. OSCI typically houses younger inmates, including those who began their sentence in a youth facility.
