The town was abandoned and partially razed in the early 1950s following authorization by the Flood Control Act of 1936 and Flood Control Act of 1938 for construction of the Conemaugh River Dam and Lake to prevent flooding of Pittsburgh. Much of the former town site now lies under the reservoir and floodplains.

The Kiski School, formally the Kiskiminetas Springs School after the Kiskiminetas River, is a private, all-male boarding school located in Saltsburg, Pennsylvania, about 40 miles (60 km) east of Pittsburgh. It is the oldest remaining non-military all-male boarding school in the United States. The school has an enrollment of about 210, including grade 9-12 and postgraduate (PG) students About 35 percent of the student body are international students. There are 36 faculty members.
