Etholen, Texas
Etholen, Texas is an abandoned ghost town in Hudspeth County, Texas, allegedly four miles west of Sierra Blanca. Different sources claim different things about when the town was founded, but particularly it was during the 1880s. Etholen never grew to more than a small railroad station on the Southern Pacific Railroad as the population was fewer than 25 by the mid-20th century. Etholen was removed from maps in the '60s.

Sierra Blanca is a census-designated place (CDP) in and the county seat of Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 533 at the 2000 census, and had decreased to 510 according to a July 2007 estimate. The town, founded in 1881 at the completion point of a long-sought southern transcontinental railway, was named for nearby Sierra Blanca Mountain, which was named for the white poppies which grew on it (sierra blanca is Spanish for white range).

Hudspeth County, Texas
Hudspeth County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. It is one of the nine counties that comprise the Trans-Pecos region of West Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 3,476. Its county seat is Sierra Blanca. The largest city is Fort Hancock. The county is named for Claude Benton Hudspeth, a state senator and United States Representative from El Paso.

Fort Quitman
Fort Quitman was a United States Army installation on the Rio Grande in Texas, south of present-day Sierra Blanca, 20 miles southeast of McNary in southern Hudspeth County. The fort was named for Mississippi Governor John A. Quitman, who served as a major general under Zachary Taylor during the Mexican-American War. In 1963, Recorded Historic Texas Landmark number 2007 was placed at the county courthouse, honoring Fort Quitman.
