York High School (Yorktown, Virginia)

York High School is a York County School Division high school located in Yorktown in York County, Virginia. The school is located near the Yorktown Battlefield, where the last, decisive battle of the American Revolutionary War was fought in October 1781. Yorktown Day, October 19, commemorates the day on which British General Lord Corwallis formally surrendered to American General George Washington. The school was opened in 1954 and currently enrolls over one thousand students.

Siege of Yorktown (1862)

The Battle of Yorktown or Siege of Yorktown was fought from April 5 to May 4, 1862, as part of the Peninsula Campaign of the American Civil War. Marching from Fort Monroe, Union Maj. Gen. George B. McClellan's Army of the Potomac encountered Maj. Gen. John B. Magruder's small Confederate force at Yorktown behind the Warwick Line. McClellan suspended his march up the Peninsula toward Richmond and settled in for siege operations. On April 5, the IV Corps of Brig. Gen. Erasmus D.

Grafton High School is a public high school located in Grafton, an unincorporated section of York County, Virginia. It is part of the York County School Division. The school opened on September 3, 1996 and shares a facility with Grafton Middle School, the only shared facility of this type in the Hampton Roads area.
