Robert E. Lee Memorial Bridge

The Robert E. Lee Memorial Bridge in Richmond, Virginia carries U.S. Route 1 and U.S. Route 301 across the James River at the fall line. The city acquired the original bridge from Richmond Bridge Corp in 1933, and it was named the James River Bridge but was later renamed for the Confederate general. It was originally constructed as a four lane toll facility and opened in 1934.

Belle Isle (Richmond, Virginia)

Belle Isle is a 54-acre island of the James River in the city of Richmond, Virginia. Once home to a nail works, granite quarry, and hydroelectric plant, during the American Civil War, it was used as a prisoner-of-war camp. Today it serves as a city park. Belle Isle has many bike trails around the island, and has a small cliff used for rock climbing instruction. It is accessible to pedestrian and bicycle traffic via a suspension footbridge that runs under the Robert E.

Woodland Heights, Virginia

Woodland Heights, VA is a neighborhood in the city of Richmond, Virginia. It began as a trolleycar neighborhood in the early 1900s and was built up along the James River beside Forest Hill Park. Woodland Heights is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Registry.

Triple Crossing

Triple Crossing in Richmond, Virginia is believed to be the only place in North America where three Class I railroads cross at different levels at the same spot. At the lowest (ground) level, the original Richmond and York River Railroad was extended after the American Civil War to connect with the Richmond and Danville Railroad, later part of the Southern Railway System, currently part of Norfolk Southern. The line runs east to West Point, Virginia.
