Sydenham railway station, Sydney

Sydenham railway station is a major interchange station located in the small Sydney suburb of Sydenham, serving the East Hills, Illawarra and Bankstown lines on the CityRail system. The Illawarra line platforms are also used by a very small number of South Coast line services. All platforms are accessed via a concourse at the southern end of the station.

Sydenham rail disaster

The Sydenham rail disaster occurred on 19 December 1953 when a New South Wales Government Railways electric passenger train travelling to Bankstown ran into the rear of another electric train travelling to East Hills at Sydenham. Five people were killed and 748 injured. A wrong-side failure of the signalling system, as a result of human intervention, was believed to be the cause.

Marrickville railway station

Marrickville is a CityRail railway station on the Bankstown line. Located in the Sydney suburb of Marrickville, it serves a residential area. It has three platforms, only two of which are used for passenger traffic. One platform faces the Metropolitan Goods Line which parallels the Bankstown line at this point, and is fenced off.

Tempe, New South Wales

Tempe is a suburb in the inner west of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Tempe is located 9 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of Marrickville Council. Tempe sits on the northern bank of the Cooks River and is separated from Sydney Airport by the Alexandra Canal, also known as Sheas Creek. The Wolli Creek waterway also empties into the Cooks River near Tempe.
