Battle of the Göhrde

The battle of the Göhrde was a battle of the War of the Sixth Coalition on 18 September 1813 between Napoleonic and Coalition troops at Göhrde in Germany. The Napoleonic troops were defeated and withdrew to Hamburg.

Scharnebeck twin ship lift

The Scharnebeck twin ship lift is on the Elbe-Seitenkanal, which connects the Elbe and the Mittellandkanal. The boat lift was built in Scharnebeck to the North-east of Lüneburg in 1974 and was at that time the largest ship lift in the world. The first ship passed through the lift on 1975-12-05. There is a museum at the site which can be visited by walkers.
