During World War I a series of battles were fought between the armies of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Kingdom of Italy for control of the Monte Grappa massif, as it covered the left flank of the Italian Piave front. It is included in the municipal territories of Bassano del Grappa, Cartigliano and Rosà, province of Vicenza, Veneto. The park was established under the provisions of Government of Veneto's deliberations no.801/2002, 1272/2002 e 3283/2002 and has an area of about 250 ha, of which 150 ha are within the municipality of Rosà.
