Ungurmuiža Manor

Ungurmuiža Manor (Latvian: Ungurmuižas kungu māja) is a manor house in the historical region of Vidzeme, in northern Latvia. The estate is named for the von Ungern family, who owned it prior to the middle of the 17th century. The current wooden manor was built in 1731-1732 in Baroque style for the owner, Lieutenant General Balthasar Freiherr von Campenhausen. The von Campenhausen family owned the estate from 1728 to 1939.

Cēsis District

Cēsis District was an administrative division of Latvia, located in the Vidzeme region, in the country's north-east. It bordered the former districts of Valmiera and Valka to the north, Limbaži and Riga to the west, Gulbene to the east, Ogre and Madona to the south. It was organized into two cities, a municipality and twenty one parishes, each with a local government authority. The center of the district was the city of Cēsis.

Cēsis Castle

Cēsis Castle is a Livonian castle situated in Cēsis, Latvia. Its ruins are some of the most majestic castle ruins in the Baltic states. Once the most important castle of the Livonian Order, it was the official residence for the masters of the order. It was partly destroyed during the Great Northern War.

Amata River

Amata is a river in Gauja National Park in the Middle Latvian Lowland. It flows from lake Kukala in Vidzeme, 66 km, to the river Gauja. The riverbanks feature Devonian red sandstone cliffs, and rapids. The river Amata is one of Latvia's fastest rivers. It has one of the deepest and most unusual valleys of all the rivers in Vidzeme, with up to 45 m high sandstone and dolomite banks. One of the steepest bank of Amata is the Zvārtes rock.

Gauja Formation

The Gauja Formation is a Middle Devonian fossil locality in Estonia and Latvia. It is named after the Gauja River, where it is exposed along the banks. The Gauja Formation has a maximum thickness of 80 m . It is composed of weakly to moderately cemented layers of fine-grained to very fine-grained sandstone. The layer is predominantly light to yellowish-gray in color, but can be pinkish brown or variegated. It is mostly composed of quartzose arenites.
