Wray Castle

Wray Castle was built as a large private house at Claife in the English county of Cumbria, in the Gothic Revival style in 1840. In its lifetime, the castle has been used for a variety of purposes, including as a training centre, and is now a National Trust property open to the public during the visitor season from April to early November; for information on opening times and dates see the National Trust website.

Windermere and Troutbeck

Windermere and Troutbeck (including Bridge House) is a National Trust property consisting of land around Windermere, a lake in Cumbria, England. This National Trust property includes the head of the Troutbeck Valley, several sites next to Windermere, and six farms. One of the farms — Troutbeck Park — once belonged to Beatrix Potter and was, in fact, her largest farm.

Belle Isle (Windermere)

Belle Isle is the largest of 18 islands on Windermere, a mere in the English Lake District, and the only one ever to have been inhabited. It is 1 km in length. Belle Isle House was built in 1774 to designs by John Plaw. It is unusual in that it is circular in plan, built of brick, three floors high with a four column portico. The Roman governor at Ambleside built a villa on the island. In 1250 it was the seat of the district's Lord of the Manor.
