Warrenpoint ambush
The Warrenpoint ambush or Narrow Water ambush (also called the Warrenpoint massacre or Narrow Water massacre) was a guerrilla assault by the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA)'s South Armagh Brigade on 27 August 1979. The IRA attacked a British Army convoy with two large bombs at Narrow Water Castle, Northern Ireland. It resulted in the British Army's greatest loss of life in a single incident during the Troubles in Northern Ireland, with 18 soldiers being killed and six seriously injured.

Narrow Water Castle
Narrow Water Castle is a famous 16th century tower house and bawn near Warrenpoint in Northern Ireland. It is beside the A2 road and on the County Down bank of the Clanrye River, which enters Carlingford Lough a mile to the south. Narrow Water Castle was given into state care in 1956. It is a state care historic monument in the townland of Narrow Water, in Newry and Mourne District Council district, at grid ref: J1256 1939.

Newry Canal
The Newry Canal, located in Northern Ireland, was built to link the Tyrone coalfields (via Lough Neagh and the River Bann) to the Irish Sea at Carlingford Lough near Newry. It was the first summit level canal to be built in Ireland or Britain, and pre-dated the more famous Bridgewater Canal by nearly thirty years and Sankey Brook by fifteen years.
