Wellington Academy

Wellington Academy was a secondary school in Greenock, Scotland serving the Eastern and Central areas of the town. In 2007 it merged with Greenock High School to form Inverclyde Academy. The Academy was opened in August 1990, and closed at the end of the 2007 summer term.

Greenock rail accident

On 25 June 1994, the 22:45 from Wemyss Bay to Glasgow, in Scotland, derailed and smashed into a bridge after hitting concrete blocks placed deliberately on the railway by vandals outside of where Drumfrochar railway station would be opened 4 years later. The train involved was a refurbished Class 303 Electric Multiple Unit.

Overton, Greenock

Overton is an area in the suburbs of Greenock, Inverclyde. Overton offers excellent views across the River Clyde and suburban Greenock. The area is the closest in Greenock to "The Cut" which was completed in 1827, bringing a water supply 9 km from Loch Thom to Overton, where the Shaws Water Works provided power to mills down the hill slope from Overton as well as the water supply for the town of Greenock.

Lyle Hill

Lyle Hill is a viewpoint in Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland. Providing a panoramic view across the Clyde estuary, its highest point is 426 feet (130 m) above sea level. It overlooks Gourock and the 'Tail of the Bank', an area of the River Clyde denoting the point at which the river becomes the Firth of Clyde.
