Furnace, Argyll

Furnace (formerly Inverleacainn) is a village in Argyll, on the west coast of Scotland, on the north shore of Loch Fyne, the longest sea loch in the United Kingdom. Furnace is around eight miles southwest of Inveraray on the A83 road road. It is unusual for a West Highland village in having an industrial past in addition to the usual focus on agriculture and fishing. Industrial activity was led by three main businesses: the iron furnace, the powdermills and the quarry.

Castle Lachlan

Castle Lachlan, or New Castle Lachlan, is an 18th century baronial mansion or country house located at Strathlachlan, Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It was built in 1790 by Donald Maclachlan, 19th laird, to replace the 15th century Old Castle Lachlan, which stands nearby on the shores of Loch Fyne. The building is protected as a category C(S) listed building.

Old Castle Lachlan

Castle Lachlan, or Old Castle Lachlan, is a ruined 15th century castle on Loch Fyne, Scotland. It was the stronghold of Clan MacLachlan until 1746 when it was attacked by British Government forces. New Castle Lachlan was built as a replacement in 1790, around 1 kilometre to the north-east. It is protected as a category A listed building, and as a scheduled monument.

Douglas Water (Loch Fyne)

Not to be confused with either the Douglas Water which flows into Loch Lomond or the Douglas Water which flows into the Clyde The Douglas Water is a river in Argyll in the southwest Scottish Highlands. It emerges from the northeastern end of the diminutive Loch Dubh-ghlas and flows northeastwards through Coire Dubh-ghlas before turning east then southeast amongst extensive conifer plantations to the bridge which carries the A83 road over it.

Dunans Bridge

Dunans Bridge is a category A-listed structure, designed by Thomas Telford. It is located at Dunans Castle on the Cowal peninsula in Argyll, Scotland. It was built for John Fletcher of Dunans, to commemorate the battle of Waterloo. The bridge was completed in 1815, and predates the 1864 elaboration of Dunans House by Kerr into a Franco-Baronial "castle". The three-arched rubble construction is considered internationally important as it is the only extant bridge of this type.
