As of 2012, the city's population was 509,039 making it the fifth largest city in California, the largest inland city in California and the 34th largest in the nation. Fresno is in the center of the San Joaquin Valley and is the largest city in the Central Valley. Approximately 200 miles north of Los Angeles, and 170 miles south of the state capital, Sacramento.

San Joaquin Memorial High School

San Joaquin Memorial High School is a private Catholic high school located in Fresno, California. Founded in 1945, it is the only Catholic high school located in the greater Fresno area. It is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fresno with a current enrollment of about 620 students. It is also the alma mater of recent twin NBA Draft Picks Brook Lopez and Robin Lopez and also Quincy Pondexter.

Theodore Roosevelt High School (Fresno)

Theodore Roosevelt High School (RHS), is located in Fresno, California. It is a high school established within the Fresno Unified School District. The high school mascot is the Rough Rider (in physical form it is a horse) named after the 1st U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment Theodore Roosevelt organized and helped command during the Spanish-American War. The high schools colors are green and gold. The school was opened in 1928, and was both a junior and senior high school.
