Soledad is a city in Monterey County, California, United States. Soledad is located 25 miles southeast of Salinas, at an elevation of 190 feet (58 m). The population was 25,738 at the 2010 census. The town is located near the Spanish mission, Mission Nuestra Señora de la Soledad (the mission of Our Lady of Solitude), founded October 9, 1791 by Fermín Francisco de Lasuén, the 13th of 21 missions in California. The town's name comes from the mission.

Rancho Ex-Mission Soledad

Rancho Ex-Mission Soledad was a 8,900-acre Mexican land grant in present day Monterey County, California given in 1845 by Governor Pío Pico to Feliciano Soberanes. The grant derives its name from the secularized Mission Soledad, but was called ex-Mission because of a division made of the lands held in the name of the Mission — the church retaining the grounds immediately around, and all of the lands outside of this are called ex-Mission lands.
