Nezperce is a city in and the county seat of Lewis County, Idaho, United States. The population was 466 at the 2010 census, down from 523 in 2000. Nezperce is named for the local Nez Perce tribe of Native Americans. ("Nezperce" derives from a corruption of French words nez percé, literally "pierced nose. ")

Nez Perce people

The Nez Perce are Native American people who live in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. An anthropological interpretation says they descended from the Old Cordilleran Culture, which moved south from the Rocky Mountains and west in Nez Perce lands. The Nez Perce Nation currently governs and inhabits within the exterior boundaries of the reservation in Idaho. The Nez Perce's name for themselves is Nimíipuu, meaning, "The People.

Lewis County, Idaho

Lewis County is a county in the U.S. state of Idaho. Partitioned from Nez Perce County and established in 1911, it was named after the explorer Meriwether Lewis. Located in the north central region of the state, its population was 3,821 at the 2010 census. The county seat is Nezperce, and Kamiah is the largest city. Most of the county is within the Nez Perce Indian Reservation, though Native Americans comprise less than 6% of the county population.

Highland High School (Craigmont, Idaho)

Highland School is a seven-year secondary school, a high school and middle school in Craigmont, Idaho, the only secondary school in the Highland Joint School District #305. Located on the Camas Prairie in rural Lewis County in the north central part of the state, it is often referred to as "Highland-Craigmont" to distinguish it from the larger Highland High School in Pocatello. The school colors are gold and black and the mascot is a husky.
