Davis Island (Mississippi)

Davis Island is a large island located in the Mississippi River. It lies mostly in Warren County in the state of Mississippi but is also partly in Madison Parish, in the state of Louisiana. It is located southwest of Vicksburg, Mississippi, USA. The island is approximately 30,000 acres in size depending on the Mississippi River level. Confederate President Jefferson Davis's Brierfield Plantation as well as his brother Joseph Davis's Hurricane Plantation were located on the island.

Richmond, Louisiana

Richmond is a village in Madison Parish, Louisiana, United States, located on Roundaway Bayou. The population was 499 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Tallulah Micropolitan Statistical Area. During the American Civil War, Union forces occupied Richmond on March 31, 1863. A Confederate force attempted to repel the invaders but was forced to retreat because of superior federal artillery.

Newellton is a town in northern Tensas Parish in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Louisiana. The population is 1,227 in the 2010 census, a decline of 255 persons, or 17 percent, from the 2000 tabulation of 1,482. Tallulah is a city in and the parish seat of Madison Parish in northeastern Louisiana, United States. The 2010 population was 7,335, a decrease of 1,854, or 20.2 percent, from the 9,189 tabulation at the 2000 census. The city is nearly 77 percent African American. Tallulah is the principal city of the Tallulah Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Madison Parish. The Madison Parish Sheriff's office operates the Steve Hoyle Rehabilitation Center there.
