The Palmetto Trail is an ambitious plan for a 425 miles foot and mountain bike trail in South Carolina for recreational hiking and biking. Several of the sections are also equestrian trails. It will extend from the Oconee County mountains to the Intracoastal Waterway in Charleston County. It currently consists of eighteen segments totalling 235 miles . While Garden City is sometimes considered to be a city it is not incorporated and does not yet have a city council or mayor. The population was 9,357 at the 2000 census and the 2010 population estimate is around 11,014. Garden City Beach is located directly south of Surfside Beach and ends on a peninsula at the mouth of Murrells Inlet.
