Lost Cove, North Carolina

Lost Cove is a ghost town in Yancey County North Carolina. Located on the gorge above the Nolichucky River on the Tennessee - North Carolina border, a boundary dispute and its isolation reportedly made it attractive to moonshiners in the 19th century. It was settled shortly before the Civil War and the last family left in 1958.

Wolf Laurel, North Carolina, is an unincorporated, private gated community, located in Madison and Yancey Counties of Western North Carolina. It is located approximately 30 miles north of Asheville, North Carolina, 6 miles from interstate 26 and borders the Cherokee National Forest, Tennessee state line and Appalachian Trail. It is named after Wolf Laurel Branch, which flows into Puncheon Fork after leaving the community upstream.
