Estancia Harberton
Estancia Harberton was established in 1886, when the missionary pioneer Thomas Bridges (1842-1898) resigned from the Anglican mission at Ushuaia. The estancia was named for Harberton, Devon, the home of his wife, Mary Ann Varder (1842-1922).

Gable Island is an Argentine island part of Tierra del Fuego Province. The island is located on the northern side of east-west Beagle Channel less than 300 metres from Tierra del Fuego Island and about 1.5 kilometres from Chilean Navarino Island. The island has an irregular shape with many shoal banks extending into bays and open channel. The islands surface is mostly covered by Magallanic forest.

Snipe incident
The Snipe incident was a military incident that took place between Chile and Argentina during 1958 as a result of a disputed border line in the Beagle Channel. Both countries disagreed about the sovereign rights over the zone and Snipe, an uninhabitable islet between Picton Island and Navarino Island, claimed by both.
