Binnaway, New South Wales
Binnaway is a small town located on the Castlereagh River in central New South Wales near the larger centre of Coonabarabran, which is about 35 kilometres to the north. In 2006, the town had a population of 495 people. The road linking these two towns closely follows the meandering Castlereagh River. There are many pleasant areas to stop beside the road and on the river banks to have a picnic. Binnaway is also located near the similarly sized small town of Mendooran.

The Siding Spring Survey (SSS) is a Near-Earth object search program that uses the 0.5-m Uppsala Schmidt Telescope at Siding Spring Observatory, New South Wales, Australia. It is the southern hemisphere counterpart of the Catalina Sky Survey (CSS) located in the Santa Catalina Mountains on Mount Bigelow, near Tucson, Arizona, USA. SSS is jointly operated by the University of Arizona and the Australian National University, with funding from NASA.

Mopra Observatory
The 22-metre Mopra Radio Telescope, located near Coonabarabran, New South Wales, is part of the Australia Telescope National Facility, operated by CSIRO. The name hails from the location of the facility close to Mopra Rock a geological formation overlooking the telescope. It is also close to the Siding Spring optical observatory in the Warrumbungle National Park. For use as a single-dish, it has niche equipment allowing large bandwidths to be observed at millimeter-wavelengths.
