Western Downs Region
The Western Downs Region is a local government area in Queensland, Australia. It was created in March 2008 as a result of the report of the Local Government Reform Commission released in July 2007. The new Council, located in the Darling Downs region contains the entire area of five previous local government areas; Town of Dalby; Shire of Chinchilla; Shire of Murilla; Shire of Tara; Shire of Wambo as well as Division 2 of Shire of Taroom.

Shire of Chinchilla
The Shire of Chinchilla was a local government area in the Darling Downs region of Queensland, Australia. The shire, administered from the town of Chinchilla, covered an area of 8,700.3 square kilometres, and existed as a local government entity from 1912 until 2008, when it amalgamated with the Town of Dalby and the Shires of Murilla, Tara and Wambo and the southern part of Taroom to form the Western Downs Region. The economy of the area is largely reliant on primary production.

Chinchilla, Queensland
Chinchilla is a town in the Darling Downs region of Queensland, Australia. At the 2006 census, Chinchilla had a population of 3,681. The town (approximately 300 kilometres west-northwest of Brisbane) was established in 1877. As the railway pushed west across the Darling Downs from Toowoomba and Dalby, the banks of Charley's Creek seemed an ideal place for a town.
