Cardwell, Queensland

Cardwell is a tropical coastal town in northeastern Queensland. It is located at the southern extremity of the Cassowary Coast. At the 2006 census, Cardwell had a population of 1,250. The Bruce Highway National Highway 1 and the North Coast railway line are the dominant transport routes; connecting with the Queensland provincial cities of Cairns and Townsville. Cardwell suffered significant damage from Cyclone Yasi, a category 5 cyclone, in February 2011.

Oyster Point (Australia)

Oyster Point lies at the mouth of Stoney Creek, about one kilometre south of Cardwell in northern Australia. The location provides excellent boating access to the shallow, warm waters of the Hinchinbrook Channel, numerous reefs and many islands including Hinchinbrook Island and Goold Island. The point was the location for one of the countries most important conservation battles.

Murray Falls

Murray Falls are located in Girramay National Park off the Bruce Highway between Tully and Cardwell, in Queensland, Australia. The falls drop 30 metres and may be viewed from a boardwalk and viewing platform. A one-kilometre walking track through the rainforest leads to a lookout, where the falls and the Murray Valley can be viewed. In 2003, a man died in hospital after falling at the falls. Other waterfalls in the Cardwell district include Wallaman Falls, Blencoe Falls and Attie Creek Falls.

Cassowary Coast Region

The Cassowary Coast Region is a local government area in the Far North Queensland region of Queensland, Australia, south of Cairns and centred on the towns of Innisfail, Cardwell and Tully. It was created in 2008 from a merger of the Shire of Cardwell and the Shire of Johnstone. The Regional Council, which administers the Region, has an estimated operating budget of A$64 million.
