The Kuku Nyungkal people (or Annan River Tribe) are a group of Aboriginal Australians who are the original custodians of the coastal mountain slopes, wet tropical forests, waters, and waterfalls of the Upper Annan River, south of Cooktown, Queensland All Kuku Nyungkal people share in common social descent from ancestors who back to time immemorial have transmitted, from generation to generation, their Kuku Nyungkal dialect, knowledge, names (for people, places, and things), traditions, heritage, plus lore In 1995 Queensland's Aboriginal Land Tribunal, relying on Kuku Nyungkal genealogical material submitted to them, estimated the total population of Kuku Nyungkal people to be "at least 900" (not including those people who had married into Kuku Nyungkal families)

Black Mountain (Kalkajaka) National Park
Black Mountain (Kalkajaka) National Park is a 781 hectare protected area in the Queensland,, 25 km south west of Cooktown. It is managed and protected as a national park under the Nature Conservation Act 1992. The main feature of the park, besides the many disappearances, is the mass of granite boulders, some the size of houses. Between the boulders and rocks is an absence of soil so that gaps penetrate inside the mountain. These rocks can become extremely hot.

Rocky Island (Queensland)
Rocky Island is an island in Walsh Bay just south of the Archer Point Light about 25 km south-east of Cooktown in the Australian state of Queensland. A lighthouse on the island, now disused, served as a lead, together with Archer Point Light, between Hope Islands and the mainland to the south, and between some reefs and the mainland to the north. It is around 6 hectares or 0.06 square km in size.

Cedar Bay is a 56.5 km national park in Queensland, Australia, 1,522 km northwest of Brisbane, 40 km south of Cooktown and accessible only by boat or foot. The park is one of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area series of national parks, and is a gazetted World Heritage site. It is also known as Mangkal-Mangkalba in the dialect of the local Aboriginal population, the Eastern Kuku Yalanji.
