Shire of Winton
The Shire of Winton is a local government area in Central West Queensland, Australia. It covers an area of 62,000.7 square kilometres, and has existed as a local government entity since 1887. It is named for the Barcoo River which reaches a confluence with the Thomson River in the shire to form Cooper Creek. The major industry in the shire is beef production and some opal mining. There has been some development of the known oil and gas reserves in the region.

Bladensburg is a national park in Queensland, Australia, located 1152 km northwest of Brisbane, and just south of the town of Winton. The 84,900 hectares of national park were declared in 1984. Ansett-ANA Flight 149
On 22 September 1966 a Vickers Viscount departed from Mount Isa, Queensland, Australia for a 73 minute flight to Longreach. Forty-four minutes after takeoff a fire started in one of the engines. The crew were unable to extinguish the fire or feather the propeller so made an emergency descent with the intention of landing at Winton, a small town along the route.
