Emu Bay, South Australia

Emu Bay is located on the north coast of Kangaroo Island, South Australia, 18 km west of Kingscote, the Island's main town. It is a small town of 97 allotments with an even mix of permanent and holiday homes. The town has no shops or mains water supply. Emu Bay is known as a popular swimming beach, and is one of few on Kangaroo Island where vehicles are permitted. A small jetty dates to 1918.

Emu Bay Shale

The Emu Bay Shale is a geological formation in Emu Bay, South Australia, containing a major Konservat-Lagerstätten (fossil beds with soft tissue preservation). It is one of two in the world containing Redlichiidan trilobites. The Australian's Emu Bay Shale correlated with upper Botomian Stage of the Lower Cambrian. Its mode of preservation is the same as the Burgess shale, but the larger grain size of the Emu Bay rock means that the quality of preservation is lower.

Busby Islet Conservation Park

Busby Islet Conservation Park is a small nature reserve on Kangaroo Island, South Australia. It was dedicated in 1967 for conservation of wildlife habitat because it provides feeding, roosting and breeding habitat for waterbirds.

Kangaroo Island Council

The Kangaroo Island Council is a local government area of South Australia that covers the entirety of Kangaroo Island, 13 km off the coast of the mainland. The council was formed in 1996 by the amalgamation of two previous councils - the District Council of Kingscote and the District Council of Dudley. The seat of the council is located in the island's largest town, Kingscote. The estimated population of the entire district is 4612.

Kingscote, South Australia

Kingscote is the largest town on Kangaroo Island, an island off the south coast of South Australia. It is a well established tourist centre, and also the administrative and communications centre. It is also home to a colony of the smallest penguins in the world, the little penguin. It is South Australia's oldest European settlement. At the 2011 census, Kingscote had a population of 2,034.
