Marne River (South Australia)

The Marne River is the major tributary from the eastern Mount Lofty Ranges into the Murray River in South Australia. Before 1917, it was called the Rhine River South. Due to anti-German sentiment during World War I, it was renamed after the Marne River of France, an important battle site of the war. The Marne's headwaters are around Eden Valley and Springton, and it passes through Cambrai before flowing into the Murray at Wongulla.

Nildottie is a town located on the Murray River in South Australia, Australia. It is in the Hundred of Nildottie, the County of Albert, and the Local Government Authority of Mid Murray Council. The name is derived from the Aboriginal word 'ngurltartang', which means 'smoke signal hill'. At the 2006 census, Nildottie had a population of 142.

Big Bend, South Australia

Big Bend in South Australia is the longest single bend in the Murray River. The area is known for its spectacular riverside cliffs, which are the tallest along the Murray River. The limestone cliffs are rich with millions of ocean fossils and are home to colonies of bats. Caves in the area have been continuously occupied for at least 8,000 years and are sacred to the local aboriginal community. There is a collection of holiday shacks located on the banks.

Mid Murray Council

Mid Murray Council was formed in 1997 from the amalgamation of the former District Councils of Mannum, Morgan, Ridley-Truro and part of the District Council of Mount Pleasant. The council spans the area from the Riverland through the Murraylands to the eastern slopes of the Mount Lofty Ranges. It includes 220 km of the Murray River. Towns in the council area include the river towns of Mannum, Swan Reach, Blanchetown and Morgan and the hills towns of Truro, Palmer and Tungkillo.

Punyelroo, South Australia

Punyelroo is a town located on the Murray River in South Australia, Australia, approximately 5 kilometres downstream from Swan Reach, but on the opposite (western or right) bank. The town is named after a local homestead. It accessible only by well-made dirt road, most conveniently off the Sedan Swan Reach Road. At the 2006 census, Punyelroo had a population of 256. Punyelroo is known for the Punyelroo Cave, located on the banks of the Murray River.
