Dorset Council

The Dorset Council is a local government area of Tasmania, encompassing the north-east part of the states mainland. The major town in the area is the regional centre Scottsdale, and smaller towns Branxholm, Bridport, Derby, Ringarooma and Winnaleah. The council was created from a merger between the Scottsdale and Ringarooma councils in the early 1990s. The current mayor of Dorset is Peter William Partridge.

Cascade River (Tasmania)

The Cascade River is a river in northern Tasmania. The river starts below Bells Hill and ends near Derby where it merges with the Ringarooma River. The river flooded in April 1929, following unusually heavy rains in northern Tasmania. After rainfall of 125 millimetres in just one and a half hours, the Briseis Dam gave way upstream of the town Derby causing a torrentof water to rush down the narrow gorge of the Cascade River. The flood was the worst in Tasmanian history, lasting several days.

Division of Bass

The Division of Bass is an Australian Electoral Division in Tasmania. The division was created in 1903 and is named for the explorer George Bass. It has always been based on the city of Launceston and surrounding rural areas, and its boundaries have changed very little in the century since its creation. For most of its history it has been a marginal seat, changing hands between the Australian Labor Party and the conservative parties—since 1949 the Liberal Party.

Ringarooma, Tasmania

Ringarooma is a small town in north-eastern Tasmania. The district was opened up to farming in the 1860s, and the town itself was founded in 1882 when a rural property was subdivided into lots by landowner Christopher Krushka. It was initially known as Krushka Town before being renamed Ringarooma in November 1888, taking on the name of a coastal town near Bridport, which was renamed Boobyalla.
