Waratah, Tasmania

Waratah is a town in western Tasmania. It was constructed to support a tin mine at Mount Bischoff. The town is built at the top of a waterfall, and water was diverted from the stream to provide water for mine sluicing and processing. At the 2006 census, Waratah had a population of 227.

Guildford, Tasmania

Guildford, Tasmania was a railway station and junction on the Emu Bay Railway in West Coast Tasmania. It was an important junction to the Waratah Branch (Mount Bischoff) railway, and in turn a connection to the 2-foot gauge Magnet Tramway (Operating 1901 to 1910s). The station and associated buildings no longer exist.

Savage River National Park

Savage River is a national park in Tasmania, 233 km northwest of Hobart. It is the largest undisturbed area of temperate rainforest in Australia. The Savage River National Park was created as part of the Regional Forestry Agreement in 1999 to allow natural processes to continue undisturbed, consequently visitors will find there are no recreational facilities or developments inside the reserve.

Tasmanian Wilderness

The Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area is a World Heritage Site in Tasmania, Australia. The area is one of the largest conservation areas in Australia, covering 13,800 km², or almost 20% of Tasmania. It constitutes one of the last expanses of temperate wilderness in the world, and includes the South West Wilderness. The Tasmanian Wilderness, a network of parks and reserves with steep gorges, underwent severe glaciation.

Hellyer River

The Hellyer River is a stream in north western Tasmania, Australia. It flows for 61 kilometres before joining into the Arthur River. High quality cool temperate rainforest and tall eucalyptus forest grows along much of the river. Significant species include Myrtle Beech, Leatherwood, Southern Sassafras and Messmate. Named after the explorer Henry Hellyer.
