Mudgegonga rock shelter

The 'Mudgegonga rock shelter is a large rock overhang which contains over 400 Aboriginal wall paintings and stencils and evidence of prehistoric Aboriginal occupation. The site is located in north eastern Victoria near the town of Mudgegonga, and is associated with rich artefact deposits that shows occupation of the region by 3,500 years ago and may have been used several thousand years before this. It has been described as one of the richest rock art sites in Victoria.

Stanley, Victoria

Stanley is a small town approximately 9 kilometres from Beechworth in Victoria noted for its apple & nut farms. At the 2011 census, Stanley had a population of 324. The town was formerly known as Snake Gully and Nine Mile Creek. Many parts of this rural community have the remains of gold diggings from the Victorian gold rush of the mid-1800s.

Mudgegonga, Victoria

Mudgegonga is a locality in north east Victoria, Australia. The locality is 316 kilometres north east of the state capital, Melbourne. At the 2006 census, Mudgegonga had a population of 384. The localilty was affected by the Black Saturday bushfires, with two deaths in the region.
