Callignee, Victoria

Callignee is a locality in the Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia. The locality is 175 kilometres east of the state capital, Melbourne. At the 2006 census, Callignee and the surrounding area had a population of 495. The locality was severely affected by the Black Saturday bushfires, including four fatalities plus another fatality at nearby Upper Callignee.

Basslink

Basslink is a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cable link crossing Bass Strait, connecting the Loy Yang Power Station, Victoria on the Australian mainland to the George Town substation in northern Tasmania. It can supply some of the peak load capacity to the mainland of Australia and take some of the excess base load capacity off the coal fired generators on the mainland to supply Tasmania, leading to all round economic and pollution savings.

Carrajung, Victoria

Carrajung is a town in eastern Victoria, Australia. Carrajung is situated between Yarram and Traralgon, about 5 kilometres from the Hyland Highway at a height of approximately 520 meters above sea level. Carrajung is situated close to the eastern end of the Grand Ridge Road. It has a population of around 100 people. Carrajung has a football oval, one church,a community hall and a primary school that is now closed. Carrajung Post Office opened on 1 November 1887 and closed in 1974.

Max Cranwell, who died in a 2009 plane crash in Papua New Guinea, resided in Hazelwood North until his death. Nearly exclusively inhabited by graziers and farmers, Hazelwood North is so named due to its geographical orientation from the town "Hazelwood" - Now known as Churchill.
