Denham, Western Australia

Denham is the administrative town for the Shire of Shark Bay, Western Australia. At the 2006 census, Denham had a population of 607. Located on the western coast of the Peron Peninsula 831 kilometres north of Perth, Denham is the westernmost town in Australia, and is named in honour of Captain Henry Mangles Denham of the Royal Navy, who charted Shark Bay in 1858.

Shire of Shark Bay

The Shire of Shark Bay is a Local government area of Western Australia. It has an area of 25,423 km² and a population of about 950. It is made up of two peninsulas, located at the western most point of Australia. There is one town in the Shire of Shark Bay, Denham, which is the administrative centre for the Shire. There are also a number of small communities; they are Useless Loop (a now-closed mining site), Monkey Mia (a popular resort where Dolphins come in), Nanga and Hamelin Pool.

Eagle Island (Western Australia)

Eagle Island is located at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:26|05|S|113|35|E|region:AU_type:isle|| | |name= }}, about 200 metres from Eagle Bluff on the Peron Peninsula in Shark Bay World Heritage Site in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia. It is a sand island with an area of about 1000 square metres (11000 ft²), and an elevation of eight metres (26 ft). The island's vegetation is a closed heath, of which the dominant plant species is Nitraria billardierei (Nitre Bush).

Monkey Mia

Monkey Mia is a popular tourist destination located about 800 km north of Perth, Western Australia. The reserve is 25 km northeast of the town of Denham in the Shark Bay Marine Park and World Heritage Site. The main attraction is the daily feeding of the bottlenose dolphins that have been coming close to shore for more than forty years. Rangers from the Department of Environment and Conservation carefully supervise the process.

Peron Peninsula

Peron Peninsula is a long narrow peninsula located in the Shark Bay World Heritage site in Western Australia, at about 25°51' S longitude and 113°30' E latitude. It is some 80 miles (130 km) long, running north-northwesterly, located east of Henri Freycinet Harbour and west of Havre Hamelin and Faure Island. It is the largest of the Shark Bay peninsulas. Significant settlements include Denham and Monkey Mia. An airport is located there.
