Gillingarra Important Bird Area is an 83 km tract of land in the wheatbelt region of Western Australia. It is located near Mogumber and Koogan on the former Midland Railway line It includes the nature reserves of Gillingarra and Koodjee with a large area of privately owned farmland.

New Norcia, Western Australia

New Norcia is a town in Western Australia, 132 km north of Perth, along the Great Northern Highway. It is situated next to the banks of the Moore River, in the Shire of Victoria Plains. New Norcia is the only monastic town in Australia. A ground station for the European Space Agency is located 8 km south of the town.

Koojan, Western Australia

Koojan is a small town located between Moora and Bindoon in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. When the Midland railway was opened in 1894 the site of the present town was established as a railway siding. Some time afterward the area was surveyed and subdivided and the town was gazeted in 1910. The town is named after the Aboriginal word for a nearby pool of the Moore River. The name was first recorded on maps which were surveyed in 1861 but the meaning of the word is unknown.

New Norcia Station

New Norcia Station is a 35-metre ESTRACK radio antenna for communication with spacecraft in deep space. It is located 10 kilometres south of the town of New Norcia, Western Australia. It was built for the European Space Agency. The station was officially opened on 5 March 2003 by the Premier of Western Australia at the time, Dr Geoff Gallop. The New Norcia antenna has an almost identical sister station, Cebreros Station, near Madrid, Spain.

ESTRACK

The European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) operates a number of ground-based space-tracking stations for the European Space Agency (ESA) known as the European Space Tracking (ESTRACK) network. The stations support various ESA spacecraft and facilitate communications between ground operators and scientific probes such as XMM-Newton and Mars Express.
