Tambellup, Western Australia

The townsite of Tambellup is located in Western Australia's Great Southern Agricultural region, 317 km south-east of Perth on the Great Southern Highway where it crosses the Gordon River. It is 23 km south of Broomehill. The area around Tambellup was first settled by pastoralists in the late 1840s, and in 1849 the Surveyor General, John Septimus Roe, when passing through the area, referred to Morrison's south west station at "Tambul-yillup".

Shire of Tambellup

The Shire of Tambellup was a local government area in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, about 40 kilometres south of Katanning and about 330 kilometres south-southeast of the state capital, Perth. The Shire covered an area of 1,436 square kilometres, and its seat of government was the town of Tambellup. The Tambellup Road Board was gazetted in 1905. On 1 July 1961, it became a shire council following changes to the Local Government Act.

Shire of Broomehill-Tambellup

The Shire of Broomehill-Tambellup is a local government area in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, 320 kilometres south-southeast of the state capital, Perth. The Shire covers an area of 2,609.1 square kilometres, and its seat of government is the town of Tambellup. It came into existence in 2008 through the amalgamation of the former Shire of Broomehill and Shire of Tambellup.

Gnowangerup, Western Australia

Gnowangerup is a town located 61 kilometres south-east of Katanning in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The townsite was first gazetted in 1908 under the spelling of Ngowangerupp. Local dissatisfaction with this spelling led to it being altered to Gnowangerup in 1913. A branch railway from Tambellup reached Gnowangerup on 1 July 1912. It was extended to Ongerup on 6 January 1913. Train services east of Gnowangerup ceased on 13 October 1957.
