Lake Toplitz is a lake situated in a dense mountain forest high up in the Austrian Alps, 98 km from Salzburg in western Austria. It is surrounded by cliffs and forests in the Salzkammergut lake district, within the Totes Gebirge (dead mountains). The Toplitzsee water contains no oxygen below a depth of 20m. Fish can survive only in the top 18m, as the water below 20m is salty, although bacteria and worms have been found below 20m that can live without oxygen.

Spechtensee
The Spechtensee is a lake on the southern edge of the Totes Gebirge mountains in Austria in the parish of Pürgg-Trautenfels near Wörschachwald. The lake is named after the Specht family who were formerly resident in Stainach and who lived on the so-called Specht Estate (Spechtengut, nowadays Schloss Sonnhof = "Sonnhof Manor House") until the end of the 19th century. The Spechtensee was part of the estate.

Ruine Pflindsberg
Ruine Pflindsberg is a castle in Styria, Austria. Around 1250 Philipp of Spanheim, the Archbishop-elect of Salzburg, occupied the Ausseerland and the Ennstal in Styria. For the coverage of his claim to power he built the small Pflindsberg castle on a hill east of the village Altaussee. 1254 he had to withdrawal and the region returned back to Styria. In the following centuries the Pflindsberg castle developed into a regional seignory with the right to hold high justice.
