Almsee

Almsee is a lake in Upper Austria's part of the Salzkammergut in the Almtal valley, 11 kilometers south of the village of Grünau im Almtal. The lake lies in the northern portion of the Totes Gebirge mountains and is about 2.3 kilometers by 700 meters wide. The lake drains through the Alm river. Since 1965, the area around the Almsee is under nature conservation. Konrad Lorenz made important observations of the Greylag Goose at the lake.

Totes Gebirge

The Totes Gebirge is a group of mountains in Austria, part of the Northern Limestone Alps, lying between the Salzkammergut and the Ennstaler Alpen. The name Totes Gebirge is derived from the German words tot meaning "dead", referring to the apparent lack of vegetation, and Gebirge meaning "mountain range". The area is a large karstic plateau with steep sides, and several mountain peaks above 2000 m. The highest point is the summit of Großer Priel, at 2,515 metres

Wildensee

Wildensee is a lake in Upper Austria in the Salzkammergut resort region. The lake is about 1,535 metres above sea level in the Totes Gebirge mountains.

Laudachsee

Laudachsee is a lake between the mountains in the Upper Austrian part of the Salzkammergut and neighbour to the larger Traunsee. Beside are the mountains Traunstein and Grünberg. In the summer the lake reaches about + 20°C. It drains through Laudach, Alm, Traun into the Danube.

Steinbrücken Cave

Steinbrücken Cave (German: Steinbrückenhöhle, "Stone bridge cave", no. 1623/204 in the Austrian Caves Register) was discovered by the Cambridge University Caving Club on the Loser Plateau in 1999. It is named after a nearby natural arch. The arch is in fact a former entrance to Traungold Cave (1623/231e) which has been developed into a convenient bivouac shelter for cave explorers. As of 2006, the cave has six entrances, has passages of 11.7 km in length and a depth of 542m.
