St. Herman's Blue Hole National Park

St. Herman's Blue Hole National Park is a national park located just off the Hummingbird Highway in Cayo District of Belize, near Belmopan, the capital city. It is over 500 acres (2 km²) in area, and contains two cave systems (St. Hermans and Crystal), various natural trails, and the cool jungle pool from which the park gets its name. The park is managed by the Belize Audubon Society. This inland "blue hole" is not to be confused with the offshore Great Blue Hole, also in Belize.

St. Margaret's, Belize

St. Margaret's is a rural village in the Cayo District of Belize, Central America. The settlement is located at mile 31 on the Hummingbird Highway, in the Maya Mountains. Hondurans, Guatemalans, Salvadorans, and native Belizeans populate the village. It is home to Five Blues Lake National Park. The village has power, a police station, and cell service. The principal jobs are quarrying and refining limestone and agriculture.

British Honduras

British Honduras was a British colony in Central America. In 1981, the colony gained full independence, and is now the independent nation of Belize. First colonised by Spaniards in the 17th century, the territory on the east coast of Central America, south of Mexico, became a British crown colony in 1862. In 1964, it became a self-governing colony. Belize became fully independent from the United Kingdom in 1981. Belize was the last continental possession of the United Kingdom in the Americas.

Sibun River

The Sibun River is a river in Belize which drains a large central portion of the country. Xibun is an alternate Mayan spelling of Sibun that appears on some Spanish colonial-period maps of the region and is sometimes used to refer to the ancient Maya people who inhabited the region.

Geography of Belize

Belize is a small Central American nation, located at 17°15' north of the equator and 88°45' west of the Prime Meridian on the Yucatán Peninsula. It borders the Caribbean Sea to the east, with 386 km of coastline. It has a total of 516 km of land borders—Mexico to the north-northwest (250 km) and Guatemala to the south-southwest (266 km).
