Quiquibey River

The Quiquibey River is a river in the Pilón Lajas Biosphere Reserve and Communal Lands in the north of Bolivia. The Quiquibey River joins the Beni River south of Rurrenabaque (upstream and south of Beni's tributary the Tuichi River). The river is the border between the departments of Beni and La Paz.

Caquihuara, Madidi, Bolivia

Caquihuara is a rainforest area along the Tuichi River in the Madidi National Park in Bolivia, west of the Bala Gorge. The area is known for its macaws who live in holes in a tall cliff on the north bank of the Tuichi River. Caquihuara is one of the last places on earth where the red and blue macaws live. The Tuichi River flows west - east and joins the Beni River 7 km south west of the Bala Gorge, where the Beni River breaks through a mountain range about 12 kilometres south of Rurrenabaque.

Bala Gorge, Bolivia

The Bala Gorge (in Spanish 'Angosto del Bala') in Bolivia is where the Beni River breaks through the Bala Mountain Range (in Spanish 'Serranía del Bala') about 12 kilometres south of Rurrenabaque. (The Beni River flows from south to north). The Bala Gorge is in the Bolivian Amazon rainforest and the west side of the Gorge is in the Madidi National Park. The boundary of the Park follows the Bala Mountain Range towards the west and the Beni River towards the south.

San Miguel del Bala

San Miguel del Bala is a little village in Bolivia. San Miguel del Bala is an indigenous community in the Bolivian Amazon rainforest on the banks of the Beni River, near Rurrenabaque. Its nearest neighbour is the Madidi National Park, world famous as one of the places on earth with the widest biodiversity. San Miguel del Bala is south of Rurrenabaque on the west bank of the Beni River. San Miguel is in the La Paz Department of Bolivia, while Rurrenabaque is in the Beni Department.

Rurrenabaque

Rurrenabaque is a small town in the North of Bolivia on the Beni River. It is the capital of Rurrenabaque Municipality. In recent years it has become popular with international tourism as it is an easy gateway for visits to Madidi National Park (within the Bolivian rainforest), as well as the surrounding pampas. Locals commonly refer to the town by its shortened nickname, "Rurre. " Rurrenabaque is located in José Ballivián Province in Beni Department, Bolivia.
