Huanuni tin mine

The Huanuni tin mine is a Bolivian mine 60 km south of Oruro on the way to Potosí, the Villa Imperial de Potosí, as the city was known in colonial times. The mine is situated in Bolivia's mining heartland. It was originally owned from the turn of the 20th century by Don Vicente J. Orlandini, who belonged to one of Bolivia's famous tin mining families, and also owner of El Porvenir-Cataricahua; the mine was later sold to Simón Iturri Patiño, the leading tin baron.

Machacamarca (Oruro)

Machacamarca is a small town in the Pantaléon Dalence Province in the Oruro Department in Bolivia. It is the seat of the Machacamarca Municipality as well as of the Machacamarca Canton. At the time of census 2001 it had a population of 2,206. The town is situated south of Oruro near the south-eastern shore of Lake Uru Uru at the road and railway that lead to Poopó.

Poopó Lake

The lower shows the extent of flooding of the western salt flats sufficient to create an ephemeral island — as shown by the rectangle. ]] Poopó Lake is a large saline lake located in a shallow depression in the Altiplano Mountains in Bolivia at an altitude of approximately 3,700 metres.
