Potosí Department

Potosí Department is a department in southwestern Bolivia. It comprises 118,218 km² with 709,013 inhabitants (2001 census). The capital is the city of Potosí. It is mostly a barren, mountainous region with one large plateau to the west, where the largest salt flat in the world, Salar de Uyuni, is located. Potosí was the richest province in the Spanish empire, providing a great percentage of the silver that was shipped to Europe.

Pulacayo

The historic industrial site of Pulacayo is located in the Potosí Department of Bolivia. The mining center is based around Huanchaca, the world's 2nd largest silver mine, and was originally founded in 1833. Features of the mining center include: Aniceto Arce’s house The Maestranza The refinery’s smelting works A spinning mill The first railroad to ever reach Bolivia Pulacayo also contains a train that Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid famously robbed.

Joya Andina Airport

Joya Andina Airport is a Bolivian airport located in the city of Uyuni, in the southwestern Potosí Department, and close to the Salar de Uyuni, the world's largest salt flat. It was opened by the Bolivian president Evo Morales on July 11, 2011. Currently the airport is served by two airlines: Amaszonas and TAM – Transporte Aéreo Militar, which offer regular flights to and from Sucre, La Paz and Rurrenabaque.
