Toca da Barriguda

Toca da Barriguda (BA-0250) is a dolomite cave located in the municipality of Campo Formoso, in the State of Bahia. It measures 33000 meters long and 61 meters deep and is now considered a branch of the Toca da Boa Vista cave, being the second longest in South America. The Coarazuphium formoso, a recently described a troglobite species of beetle found in the Barriguda cave.

Toca da Boa Vista

Toca da Boa Vista (BA-082) is the longest known cave in the Southern hemisphere. It is located within the municipality of Campo Formoso, 11 km east of the town of Lage dos Negros, in the State of Bahia, Brazil. As of 2007 it had over 120 km of mapped passages, which makes it the 13th longest cave in the world. Continued exploration faces typical temperatures of up to 30 Cº.
