Chalk River

Chalk River is a Canadian rural village part of the Laurentian Hills municipality in Renfrew County, Ontario. It is located in the Upper Ottawa Valley along Highway 17, 10 km inland (west) from the Ottawa River, approximately 21 km northwest of Petawawa, and 182 km northwest of Ottawa. Chalk River was a separate municipality until January 1, 2000, when the United Townships of Rolph, Buchanan, Wylie and McKay and the Village of Chalk River were merged.

NRX

NRX was a heavy water moderated, light water cooled, nuclear research reactor at the Canadian Chalk River Laboratories, which came into operation in 1947 at a design power rating of 10 MW (thermal), increasing to 42 MW by 1954. At the time of its construction it was Canada's most expensive science facility and the world's most powerful nuclear research reactor.

National Research Universal reactor

The National Research Universal (NRU) reactor is a 135 MWt nuclear research reactor built in the Chalk River Laboratories, Ontario, one of Canada’s national science facilities. It is a multipurpose science facility that serves three main roles. It generates isotopes used to treat or diagnose over 20 million people in 80 countries every year (and, to a lesser extent, other isotopes used for non-medical purposes).

Chalk River Laboratories

The Chalk River Laboratories (also known as CRL, Chalk River Labs and formerly the Chalk River Nuclear Laboratories, CRNL) is a Canadian nuclear research facility located near Chalk River, about 180 km north-west of Ottawa in the province of Ontario. CRL is a site of major research and development to support and advance nuclear technology, in particular CANDU reactor technology. Ottawa River Waterway

The Ottawa River Waterway is a series of portage bypass sites around rapids and dams along the Ottawa River, managed by the Governments of Ontario and Quebec, to allow recreational boating between Lake Timiskaming and Montreal. The Waterway officially starts in Mattawa, Ontario, but provides access all the way down to Pembroke and Ottawa.
